TAC HEL MEMORIES PROJECT
Memories are perishable and fleeting. Our Tac Hel community has been in
existence in various iterations since 1968. During that time we have
been through a lot: acquiring good friends and sadly losing a few;
deployments throughout Canada, the Americas, the Middle-East, and
Europe; introducing new aircraft; and retiring of trusted machines. In
close to forty years we have flown hundreds of thousands of hours,
consumed millions of litres of fuel, and fixed countless unserviceable
aircraft. A lot has happened in our Tac Hel family and now is the time
to record it.
I have commissioned the ‘Tac Hel Memories’ project to ensure the human
side of our story is duly recorded. I am asking you to take a moment or
two to record what you found most memorable about your Tac Hel days.
Your stories can involve some of the characters that have populated our
brother-and sisterhood, they can involve missions, they can be humorous
or poignant – this is the assembly of what you wish to have recorded and
remembered.
My intent is to archive all the material that is collected to ensure its
preservation. A true copy will be sent to the Directorate of History and
Heritage for access by researchers and authors. Do not feel constrained
to submitting only stories – photographs, documentation, and articles
from other sources are most welcome. Submissions can be made
traditionally or online and photographs may be sent as prints or
electronically. Please indicate if you wish your submission to be
returned. The enclosed form, or a visit to
www.tachelmemories.ca or
www.tachelmemories.com will give you all the information you require.
I am counting on your involvement. If each of us undertakes to provide
just a single memory we will have made tremendous progress towards
capturing our story. Our history is rich, diverse, and significant – it
deserves to be recorded. M.R. Dabros Colonel
